Roosevelt's Tree Army - Living History Group
Preserving the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Pacific Northwest, 1933 - 1942
In the spring of 1933, president-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt passed a multitude of relief and recovery acts in the wake of the Great Depression. One of the most popular pieces of legislation passed on March 31 became known as the Civilian Conservation Corps, or CCC.
Throughout nearly a decade of operation, the CCC became most famous for direct conservation efforts and firefighting in U.S. forests, but also building infrastructure to make National Parks, Forests, and state lands accessible to the public. The Pacific Northwest holds some of the most prominent and recognizable CCC projects, many of which still remain today.
Roosevelt's Tree Army Living History Group works in conjunction with local parks and museums to interpret this period in history through detailed displays of 1930s clothing and equipment as was issued to the CCC, giving back to our hosts when possible with cleanup and restoration work using original tools from the era.Â
